STORY

After successfully defeating Cutter Sane in his shadow domain known as “Sanity Falls”, the new recruits of Department 7 proved themselves to be useful and able to handle the problems with the shadowkind.

Over a three week period, the characters spend time their off time in many different ways:

  • McCleary: Participates in a fight and wins, as well as evades the MCTF (McCleary Case Task Force) with the help of Phiber and Rose. Winning fights brings more business to Shady Brooke Apartments which in turn makes the Tries Leader, Saw, very happy. He awards McCleary with an on call Tries Hireling.
  • Claudia: crafts a punching dagger weapon for McCleary and modifies his motorcycle to include plate armor with a detectable battering ram.
  • Bob: suffering from the split personality issues of being infected with Grey Hat. Buys guns and tries to build bombs.
  • Brock: Agent Marcus learned of his severe drinking habit and decided the way to help him not become a threat to the team is to send him to Alcoholic Anonymous meetings. One night on the way home, Brock is captured by an unknown force.
  • Mally: Spent his three weeks hanging out with his friend Tina, and playing video games.
  • Kevin (formerly Dr. El Beasto): continued to work at the hospital (without his mask), and purchased a condo and new Lexus.
  • Phiber: Spent the majority of his time working with Rose.

Rose & Phiber have been trying to locate who captured Brock by posting on blacklist forums and such, he has been missing for about a week. One night, Kevin and McCleary head to the liquor store to purchase some alcohol and aspirin for Teddy. Over the course of five minutes, McCleary is almost identified by a teenager who recognized him and he also receives a call from a man named “Dominic Lombardi” who claims he can help with his current police problem. Kevin on the other hand has a strange visit from a man dressed all in black who claims that to find the truth he must fully understand the power…

Back at HQ, Bob lets Grey Hat take over and goes berserk, and smashes through the wall into Claudia’s room, luckily Rose was present and shot Bob up with a sedative. Due to Agent Marcus’s concern for the missing Brock he calls everyone in for a meeting. During that time, McCleary rallies a task force to accompany him to his next day meeting with Mr. Lombardi.

The next day, the whole group (excluding Phiber) head over to Tony Z’s Pizza in Northwood for the meeting with Mr. Lombardi. Kevin and Bob opt to stay outside, Kevin wants to watch his ride while Bob breaks into a recently closed Antique Store and finds a wad of money. Inside the pizzeria the rest of group is escorted back by a goon named Casper who explains that Mr. Lombardi is in rare form today and they should just get down to business. The characters soon learn the Mr. Lombardi is actually a Gnoll and under boss for the Corsone Crime Syndicate, he agrees to help McCleary with the cops if the group can retrieve a briefcase containing an object of great importance from Uncle Biff,a hit-man who recently double crossed Lombardi. The group agrees and are given information on where to find a friend of Biff’s who could lead to his capture. Before leaving Mally hears some noise coming from behind another door in the back room, opening it to find a beaten Brock tied up…the group quickly explain that this person is a friend of theirs. Lombardi explains that Brock is also a wanted criminal and they were going to use him as a bargaining chip to the cops, they allow Brock to leave.

The group head to Bayside Square to locate the friend of Uncle Biff, she’s a stripper who works at The Golden Calf. Arriving before the club’s opening, the group spend time in the square’s shopping and eatery sections. Eventually they make their way into the gentleman’s club, the first to find Stardust (the stripper) is Claudia who asks the club owner if she could audition for a job. The owner quickly pairs her up with Stardust (who is about to perform a private dance) to show her the ropes…the receiver of the dance turns out to Kevin! After some nice words and such, Stardust offers to take the two to Uncle Biffs (who she refers to as Bufford) house, in turn Kevin pays her a hefty sum. The other players wonder around the bar, Mally meets a new friend, Brock gets in a fight with a gay cowboy, and Bob flips out again and tries to dance onstage. Eventually everyone makes it outside (Bob gets thrown out), and they meet up with Claudia and Stardust.

Stardust brings the characters to Biff’s home, and they find that the place is empty. Claudia is sleepy from her striping adventure so she decides to take a nap in the back of the family truckster. After entering through the garage and searching the house, they discover that Biff will be meeting someone at the docks tonight at midnight. Also, they find that Biff has been two timing Stardust, this infuriates her…Bob accidentally watches a pornographic movie and flips out again, unknown to the other players he leaves the house and drives off in the family truckster (with Claudia still sleeping inside). While investigating the backyard the team is attacked by weird frog monsters. Brock is seriously injured when his gun exploded. After defeating them, they leave quickly when the sounds of police sirens are heading toward the house.

Stardust demands to go to the apartment where Biff is supposedly sleeping with one of her friends, the characters soon learn that it was a big misunderstanding and that Biff is not there…they quickly head to the docks leaving Stardust behind.

Bob awakens 30 miles outside of the city, after driving into a tree and seriously injuring Claudia, Bob makes a call, learns of the dock plan, and heads back with the quickness…

At the docks, the group is confronted by a gang of gay cowboys who attack McCleary after he got mouthy with them. Eventually they leave, and the group continues to search for Uncle Biff, eventually they find him and a battle starts…which ends in the group knocking Biff unconscious.

The mystery guest to the midnight meeting, turns out to be Dominic Lombardi! who reveals that there was never any item of great importance and that it was all a setup to get McCleary out in public…just as a fight is about to start suddenly Bob (possessed again!) hits Lombardi with the family truckster sending him flying (dead) into the ocean. The other characters escape in the Lexus just as the police are about to arrive…

Eventually, the group revive Uncle Biff and spare his life when he offers McCleary the spot as underboss for the Corsone Syndicate…McCleary accepts and Biff promises to assist him with the problem with the police for real this time around!

Absent Players: Shaun, Black Manta

It’s been about a week since the run in with Dominic Lumbardi and William McCleary is living it up in his new twelve room mansion. William pays for a new identity (ID and Name), and Claudia comes to live with him out of fear of Bob at Department 7 HQ. Kevin diagnosed Claudia with minor brain damage due to her accident in the family truckster. Bob is reduced to carrying a basic pistol after his recent outburst in the field.

Agent Marcus decides to sent his operatives down to Atlanta, GA in an attempt to uncover some clues in the mysterious serial killings of individuals that are registered as “Shadow-Touched”. Marcus gives Kevin the go ahead to lead the operation and investigation. Due to limited funds, the group of Kevin, McCleary, Claudia, Bob, and Mally are given tickets on a cheap airline. Brock is currently recovering from his injury and Phiber is MIA.

The trip to the airport is uneventful, and the majority of the group pay for weapons insurance to make sure their equipment arrives in Atlanta. On the plane, Bob keeps himself together, Mally has a nightmare of her last flight, Claudia rocks out with her ipod (and drinks her new favorite soda…beer), and McCleary is denied his scotch. Eventually they arrive at Atlanta International.

The group are greeted by a limo driver holding a sign for “The Jeffersons” on the reverse side it bares the D7 logo. Also, a letter is given in which the Atlanta Department 7 Operatives apologize that they can not meet the group right now but will join them later at the morgue. The driver, name unknown (nicknamed Mumbles), directs them to their limo which is loaded with booze and snacks. The limo heads to the morgue.

On the interstate, the characters get stuck in gridlock traffic…after some investigation they find that a bus has been hyjacked by a group of kolbolds (armed with AK-47’s) who are demanding 50 grand and a getaway car or they will blow up the bus. The group uses the first few rounds to get all extra citizens clear of area (including Cheech and Chong). Next McCleary tries to advance the bus, and soon meets the boss of this gang, an 8 foot tall Ogre named “Tobias”...it doesn’t take long before this turns into an all out war!

In the mist of battle, Mally sneaks under the bus (escape floor entrance) to survey the hostage situation…she finds five hostages, and three more kolbolds armed with taser weapons. Using her damaged brain, Claudia is able to disable a car battery and use it to shock a few of kolbolds on the bus. Tobias reveals a shotgun and blasts McCleary right in the chest (luckily some protective clothing was worn). Bob assists by taking down a AK-47 Kolbold…only to find that the guns are a fake…this causing the rest of the group to move up. Inside the bus, Mally finds that regardless of fake guns…these little dogs are wearing explosives, with some quick actions he gets the bomb off the bus and disposes of it quickly. Kevin takes out the remaining Kolbolds outside with rubber bullets. Claudia boards the bus in an attempt to save the hostages, Bob and McCleary double team the giant orge and eventually kill him. The remaining Kolbolds in the bus try to make a get away by driving the bus, but not before Kevin boards, and Bob feebly tries to as well (but manages to be thrown from the bus…knocking him out). Kevin & Claudia continue to try and stop the kolbolds and now the bus as well. Mumbles (driving the limo on the sidewalk) picks up McCleary and Mally, but is soon thrown from the vehicle by EVIL Bob (after being knocked out…Grey Hat took over again). EVIL Bob drives the limo wildly after the bus. Eventually Claudia & Kevin overpower the remaining enemies and Claudia stops the bus…Mally using his knife skills is about to incapacitate Bob and stop the limo before it causes more damage. Kevin assists the hostages before they all load into the limo and leave (Bob zip tied and placed in the trunk).

Finally arriving at the morgue, the group meet Doctor Robert Paulson, an overweight candy bar loving southerner who runs the morgue. He leads the gang into the top secret/unsolved case area and shows them the three bodies they have remaining from the “PM Case”. The bodies (2 male, 1 female(newest)) have all died from several sudden blows to the head, and the identical marking of the letters “PM” have been carved into their chests. Kevin asks the rest of group (who were becoming rambunctious in this morgue setting) if they wouldn’t mind waiting outside while he conducted his investigation…they all go to nearby Burger World after Mumbles reveals that the Atlanta Department 7 operatives should be along shortly (in fewer words and on a pad of paper).

Twisted Realities (Department 7 HQ), Baltimore

We learn that Brock has been released from the hospital but his hand is so mangled from the gun explosion (My Brother’s Keeper Module) that he will not be of much use anymore. Luckily, Ivan (D7’s medic/inventor/field officer) has created a new item called “The Gloves of Perfection” beta version…and he feels Brock would be a prime candidate for a test run…Brock accepts…

“The Gloves of Perfection” beta

These gloves are light and very bare bones looking, little electronic lights blink all over it. The gloves allow Brock to perform tasks with his damaged hand without penalty, also grants him the ability to fight with a weapon in each hand. When melee attacking the gloves do extra damage, but hitting too hard (aka fumble) can cause the gloves to explode. Also, getting them wet causes them to malfunction.

Agent Marcus tells Brock that the group headed to Atlanta, since Department 7 is low on funds they give Brock the keys to Bob’s Jeep and tells Brock that getting out of the city for awhile will do him some good. Brock begins his 8-10 hour drive to Atlanta…

Burger World, Atlanta

McCleary, Claudia, Bob, Mally, and Mumbles (the limo driver) head to the burger place near the morgue…Mumbles challenges Bob to an eating contest of Burger World’s Largest Burger “The Gut Buster” (Five Beef Patties with five slices of cheese)...in the end, Bob wins and Mumbles pukes…Mally spots a flyer sitting on a table nearby and it just so happens to be for the circus, Jack Donovan’s Elephant Fest, he previously worked at…Claudia tries to find directions via GPS but is unsuccessful due to brain trouble…another resturant patron tells the group the site of the circus is just a few blocks away! After the meal the group heads over there, while Mumbles stays with the limo.

The Gallery Morgue, Atlanta

Kevin continues to investigate the three bodies to try and find some traces of evidence…what he discovers:

  • The men were killed by numerous blows to the head, and the woman was strangled
  • The wounds were made after the victim was dead
  • The wounds are perfectly the same, about an inch and half wide, and they appear to be made by something resembling animal claws

Kevin continues to search, Dr. Paulson comes by to see if Kevin needs anything but he quickly sends the candy bar loving doctor away so he can focus.

Some Highway, Virginia

Brock is moving along, eventually he gets stuck behind a bus that gets a flat tire. Brock gets out to see if he can help with the situation, only to find that the bus is inhabited by Shadowkind…Brock freaks out and screams…soon he learns that these people aren’t Shadowkind…it’s actually GWAR! they dress like that fun and to perform at their loud, obnoxious, fake blood filled shows!! They ask Brock to help assist with the flat tire while the band members attend to some BUSINESS inside the bus. Brock changes the tire without much problem, GWAR awards him with tickets to their show in Hoboken, NJ (Brock refused to tell these freaks where he actually lives) and they speed off, leaving Brock in a cloud of gray smoke.

Donovan’s Elephant Fest Site, Atlanta

Mally’s presence allows the group to be let into the circus for free, the big top is closed till tonight but the midway is open for games. Mally is surprised to see that a majority of his old friends are actually meta-humans (elfs, orcs, trolls, etc). He finds Donovan, who is actually a thiefling, and begins telling him about his new job and all. Terrance, a young acrobat, has taken Mally’s place since he took a leave of absence (because of joining Department 7). McCleary tries to win at a wooden bottle game but is unsuccessful, but Bob makes an attempt and almost destroys the tent…he wins a stuffed panda. Bob suddenly becomes possessed by Grey Hat again, and goes and messes with the safety net that would protect Terrance from a dangerous fall…within a few seconds, fate would have it that Terrance falls and seriously injured himself. Mally knows Bob was responsible so he makes him and the rest of the group leave the circus immediately.

Pit Stop, Virginia

Brock feeling a little hungry stops at a famous establishment called “The Prancing Pony” and orders the Magic Meal, which includes a TASTY burger, drink, fries, and a surprise! The prize turns out to be a temporary tattoo of a weird symbol…in a stupor, Brock puts it on his forehead…in a few minutes he learns that now has the ability to can throw his voice!

Brock makes it to the State Line and heads into North Carolina…

Outside The Gallery Morgue, Atlanta

The group arrives back at the morgue, Mumbles is waiting, he’s obviously still pissed about the car jacking and eating contest winning by Bob. He grabs the panda and rips it’s head off…the group tries to get Bob to stay with Mumbles but the driver is not having it…Everyone but Mumbles eventually goes inside…

Joining Kevin in the examination room (Bob is forced to wait in the next room), Kevin recounts to his teammates what he has learned…

Highway, North Carolina

Brock is making good time in North Carolina…mostly because he’s speeding…he is eventually pulled over by one of the notorious Carolina State Troopers…after a bit of tongue lashing from the officer…a certain song comes on over the radio and the state trooper and Brock break into a sing-a-long of “Bohemian Rhapsody”, in the end the trooper decides that Brock is alright and lets him move along…

The Gallery Morgue, Atlanta

As Kevin explains what learns, Bob flips out in the other room again…he finds a body in a bag near by and it just so happens to be a female…McCleary, who is not really listening to Kevin, spots a tattoo on the side of one of the dead guy’s arm…before he has time to examine it, two agents burst in from the entry room (they have just recently used a taser on Bob to shop his shenanigans). The agents look very similar but one is a female and one is male…they introduce themselves as Agents S. & M., they also mock the group for having so many members. Eventually they focus back on the bodies and McCleary reads out loud what is written on the tattoo…Boo-Bah! The two new agents look at each other in fear…that was an undead resurrection spell…the two male bodies jump up immediately and begin to fight the group…

The Sticks, South Carolina

Brock is almost to the state line when his stomach sends signals that it is about to automatically expel itself. Finding a nearby gas station, BFE Gas, he quickly enters the station (knocking down a bum in the process), and finds the bathroom. Disaster strikes! but atleast it’s in the toilet…a few minutes later, Brock gets up from his business, and hears a small noise coming from inside the toilet…looking in he sees what appears to be a mix of a human baby and an amphibian monster! Brock quickly flushes it down the toilet and leaves promptly…a few minutes later the bum from early has a run in with Brock illegitimate son…it doesn’t end well for the bum

EXPLAINATION: When Brock fell into the pool at Uncle Biff’s house he accidentally swallowed one of the frog monster eggs…over the last week it grew in his stomach…the acids and bile causing many deformations to happen to the creature…

The Gallery Morgue, Atlanta

The Baltimore D7 operatives soon learn that their new friends from Atlanta are actually psionics:

  • S. – she is a telepath…she can read objects/people just by touching them. As well, as telekinesis, mind blast, etc.
  • M. – he is a battle mind…able to produce physical psionic blades from his wrists. As well, as much more aggressive mind attacks.

The group along with these two make quick work of the two walking dead…during the fight a few of the control panels were damaged so more zombies start to filter out of their icy tombs…the group decides to flee but not before noticing that the “PM” female is also now gone…in the next room they find Bob trying to fight off a zombie, but then he changes to EVIL Bob and starts to make out with it…the group leaves him…

In the hallway heading towards the exit the group fight one more zombie…before getting to the exit where they find that even Dr. Robert Paulson has been turned…after a much drawn out fight they defeat dead Paulson and make an escape…Bob rejoins the group carrying the head of the zombie chick he was fighting…

Claudia receives a call from Brock, who informs her that he is in Atlanta now and she gives him directions to the Morgue…Once he arrives, S&M tell the next plan of action…

The Atlanta Agents explain that art is known as Shadow Tattooing, imprinting spells on the skin and using action words to activate them…most importantly the “PM” female victim was not found on the way out of morgue…so that means she’s running loose in the city…S. says that if only they could track it would make their job much easier…M. suggests they try out one of their own (unregistered) serums on one of their new friends…S. says she will test each person’s mind to see who is suitable to possibly become enlightened…

  • Bob: senses a disturbance in the brain almost as if it’s cut in halves…for you to have this power would be extremely dangerous
  • Claudia: your brain is strong and full of knowledge, but recent damage could make this injection fatal, maybe some other time
  • Brock: your brain has been affected by years of alcohol abuse…lack of control and will
  • McCleary: what you lack in brain power you make up in physical mass
  • Kevin: Injury has caused confusion, with this injection your mind would fight over the power slowly ripping you mentally apart…it would kill you…
  • Mally: your mind is…pure…innocent…fun loving…the stress and modifications you make on your body, brings joy to your mind…I believe you are the best candidate to receive this ability…

Mally accepts the offer and he is given the “Wild Talent” formula which grants him the power of “Shadowkind Detection”, with this power he is able to follow a path that will lead them to the escaped female zombie…they follow…and end up in front of The Crunkalot Villas before the trail runs cold…

The Crunkalot Villas, Atlanta

Mally’s Shadowkind Detection runs cold outside of a rundown apartment complex called “The Crunkalot Villas”, the team splits into two with one half venturing inside and the other around back.

The backside team determines that very few of the apartments actually have attendants in them, while the inside group meet with the apartment manager, Jon (who happens to be a halfling). During the conversation, Jon is insulted by Brock to which he electrocutes Brock with a taser. Before more trouble can happen, a scream is heard from above, both teams regroup and start to search the upper level…

Mally & Claudia meet Scrappy Bonez (a very untalented crunk rapper), and find a crying woman and unconscious man in another apartment. They question the woman who reveals that a crazy lady burst into her apartment, knocked out her husband and kidnapped her two children.

McCleary & Kevin meet the local drug lord known as “Tha Man”, and eventually come across an apartment where weird chanting can be heard from the other side…McCleary knocks the door down to reveal a buffed up version of the zombie chick and the two child passed out in red chalked circle.

A battle takes place, Kevin focuses on getting the children to safety while everyone else battle the buffed up zombie chick…who’s head eventually explodes due to a make shift electric rod created by Claudia. The group begin to search the apartment…

After many searches the group find that the apartment belong to a Mr. and Mrs. Monroe, and that they were divorced over five months ago. Also access to secret room determines who the next victim will be of the PM Killer…in Baltimore…a woman named Bonnie Brown.

The Atlanta D7 members offer rides and pay for Brock’s plane ticket back to Baltimore (Mumbles is going to drive the jeep back to Baltimore)...after a two hour flight the gang learns that a woman named Bonnie Brown has been admitted into John Hopkins Hospital with multiple stab wounds. Everyone eventually makes it over there to investigate…Mally finds Bonnie on her death bed but before she dies she says:

“I know what you are…and what you can see…I can see it in your eyes…you have seen the ways of the Shadow! The Beast is coming for you soon! If you value your life and you’re friends then you should seek out Michael St. James for he is the one who knows the truth behind this quest for violence.”

Afterward, everyone meets back at Department 7 headquarters to rest up and prepare to find this Micheal St. James…

Department 7 Headquarters, Baltimore

After returning/resting up at Department 7 HQ, the group decides to head over to Bayside Square to try and find this man named Micheal St. James, who Bonnie Brown identified and claimed that he could tell the truth about the BEAST (aka PM KILLER).

On the way to Bayside, Bob is pulled over and promptly put through a full sobriety test since he was acting like a nut when the officer first approached his vehicle (the Truckster). The rest of the gang (McCleary & Claudia – McCleary’s Bike / Everyone else – Lexus), arrive at Bayside Square without a problem. Kevin goes to “The Hole” to pick up some new threads, McCleary & Claudia deal with a group of snobbish clubbers, Mally and Brock eat ice cream :) Eventually Bob arrivals and they all proceed into the club.

Club Plasma, Baltimore

Kevin folks up the cash for everyone’s entry fee, and they are all greeted by hard pumping techno music on the inside. People of all races and sizes dance wildly to the music, McCleary quickly notices a stairway leading up to the VIP area. Bob quickly becomes aqainted with the head bartender, Stradh, and tries a good helping of the club’s premiere drink, Dragons Blood. Brock, Kevin, and Mally try to mingle in the crowd, while Claudia gets the music in her soul and begins to dance wildly. Her wild performance cause many people to follow suit, soon the whole dance floor is rocking. McCleary tries to smooth talk his way into the VIP area but it appears that no one is allowed unless they bare a special tattoo (a pair of fang marks on their neck). It’s also told that people in VIP have a see thru floor where they can watch the party goers down below…Due to her wild dancing soon Claudia is summoned to the second floor. Kevin pays a hefty sum for himself, Mally, and McCleary to get the special tattoo.

Upstairs, Claudia finds the VIP area to be very elegant, with soft music playing and has all the workings of a classy upscale bar. She soon meets Mr. Johnson, an elf who has modified himself to appear of a higher class of fey…he asks Claudia for a favor and in turn he will get her into a meeting with Micheal St. James…Soon she is joined by her three friends who are bearing new tattoos.

Down stairs, Bob passes out due to the high alcohol content of the drinks…and Brock takes over as the dancing champion…

In VIP, McCleary starts a fight with Mr. Johnson over his opinion on elf and human interaction…eventually he allows Kevin and Claudia to have an appointment with Micheal St. James…while Mally stays outside to keep McCleary under control.

Inside St. James’ suite, they find themselves in a room split by a pane of glass, on the other side sits a man(?) in a dress, huge orange hair, and face painted like a gesha girl…after a few simple questions and not many answers the room goes dark and much mayhem can be heard…

Downstairs, the VIP guard and Stradh bring Bob into the “Special” room and proceed to operate on him…eventually he breaks free and does some serious damage to his captures…

In the suite, once the lights return, Claudia and Kevin see that Micheal St. James has been murdered…and has the “PM” symbol carved into his chest, eventually the group is lead out of the club by guards (who do not believe that James is dead and that it’s just another one of his stunts)...the group is lead out the back entrance into an alleyway…

Brock eventually saves Bob from the “secret” room and they decide to depart the club, but not before Bob drops a Thermite Grenade behind the bar.

In the alley, McCleary is confronted by the Gnoll that has been hunting him for the past few weeks, and a fight ensues. It appears that the group would be defeated but a mysterious young man shows up and assists them in defeating the threat…he introduces himself as Amilyn and says he’s there to help.
